Electronic and electrical devices are designed to operate at a rated maximum supply voltage, and considerable damage can be caused by voltage that is higher than the devices are rated. When the input line voltage exceeds a circuits maximum rated line voltage, this is known as an overvoltage. The conditions may be hazardous and destructive to the equipment. Depending on its duration, the overvoltage event can be transient, a voltage spike or can be sustained, leading to what is termed a power surge. The OVP-7X has been designed to eliminate the potentially damaging overvoltage and power surges, which can occur on the input power for sensitive audio systems and other electronic devices. The system provides isolation between the control side and power side using electronic opto-isolator devices that transfers an electrical signal between isolated circuits using light to control high current Power Triac’s which control the 120VAC power circuits. The graph below shows the precision monitoring of the incoming voltage and instantaneous power switching of the system. The OVP-7X will switch off the output HOT LINE of each circuit within ½ cycle of the incoming voltage when an overvoltage condition occurs.
