Historic Venue Stages Restoration

July 18, 2017

The newest community development in the revitalization of Pontiac, Michigan comes in the shape of a Community Theatre space. Pontiac’s Little Art Theatre, affectionately known as the “PLAT”, has been renovated and is ready to be used by theatre groups, dance troops, musicians, for corporate meetings, showers, movies or anyone needing a unique venue.

The 1868 historic building has been lovingly restored in a beautiful Art Deco style. The space, while originally a grocery store, has been turned into a theatre space that can be used for both live performances and as an old time movie house, complete with a surround sound system. Local Michigan Pro Audio manufacturer ISP Technologies was tapped to design a FOH system and a High Definition Distributed system to support all necessary audio needs of the space. Two XMAX 115 750 watt RMS subwoofers with HDM 112 600 watt RMS top boxes were used for the main system while the HDDS system for the surround sound consisted of a Master Control and four SM800 cabinets.

Robert Karazim and Karen Jorgenson of K and R Design purchased and renovated the building over the past three years with a desire to expand the community atmosphere of Pontiac. “Both living and working in Pontiac has made us want to give back, and a theatre seemed like a great idea,” Robert said, “and utilizing Michigan companies to make it happen was important to us as well.”
